Project High Tower: Why Everything in My Company Connects to One Place

AI can only work with what it can see. So I'm building one place where every part of my company connects. We call it Project: Hightower.

Craig Cecilio · The Relentless Builder

Ask most owners where their business actually lives.

The contacts are in one app, the deals are in a spreadsheet, and the calendar is somewhere else. The real decisions are in someone's head. Or buried in a text thread from March.

That was my company too.

So I gave the fix a name: Project High Tower.

The problem nobody sees

Every tool you buy promises to save time. Then you buy ten of them.

Now your team spends the morning copying information from one system to another. Your numbers don't match. Nobody trusts the report, so everybody keeps their own version.

That's not a software problem. It's an infrastructure problem.

And it's about to get a lot more expensive, because AI can only work with what it can see.

AI is only as smart as what it can reach

I wrote before that AI is an operating system, not an app. Here's the part that makes that real.

If your AI can see the contacts but not the deals, it gives you half an answer. If it can see the deals but not the calendar, it can't tell you what to do next.

Most companies are stuck right here. In a 2025 Cloudera survey of more than 1,500 IT leaders, only 9% said all of their data was available and usable for AI. And 61% said siloed data had hurt their ability to scale it.

Those are big companies with big IT budgets. Imagine the $20M owner running on spreadsheets and sticky notes.

What Project Hightower connects

The idea is simple. Everything my company knows connects to one place, and everything we do runs through it.

Contacts. Every person we know, sorted by who they are to us and where they came from.

Deals. Every opportunity, every stage, every next step.

Calendar. What's happening, who owns it, and when it's due.

Content. Everything we publish, and what it actually brings back.

Money. The numbers, in one version everyone trusts.

The daily AI brief. Because all of it connects, AI can read it and tell me what matters before 8 a.m.

Three rules for building your own

One source of truth. If the same information lives in two places, one of them is wrong. Pick the home and kill the copies.

Own it. The accounts, the data, and the logins sit in the company's name. Not a vendor's. Not a former employee's.

Connect before you automate. Don't add AI to a mess. Connect the mess first. Then let AI do the volume.

Where we are

I'm not done. This is the build, in public, as it happens.

Some days it works beautifully. Some days a connection breaks and we're back in the spreadsheet. That's the job.

But I already know this: the owners who get their company into one place this year will run circles around the ones still copying and pasting next year.

Quick Answers

What is a single source of truth in business?

One trusted place where your company's key information lives, so every person and every tool works from the same numbers instead of separate copies.

Why does AI need connected data?

AI can only use what it can access. If contacts, deals, schedules, and financials sit in separate systems, AI gives partial answers.

How many companies have data ready for AI?

Very few. In a 2025 Cloudera survey of more than 1,500 IT leaders, only 9% said all of their organization's data was available and usable for AI.

Where should a business owner start?

List every place your company stores information, pick one home for each type, and connect those systems before adding automation.

Connect it first. Then let it run.
