THE STORY

NO SHORTCUTS. NO SILVER SPOON.
NO OVERNIGHT SUCCESS.

I grew up working-class in a small town where expectations were low. One sentence from my mother became the standard I carried into three decades of building companies, raising capital, leading teams, and learning what pressure reveals about a person.

“You know what you’ve got to do.”

That was the sentence. No speech. No rescue plan. Just a reminder that the next move was mine to make.

THE STANDARD CAME . BEFORE THE SUCCESS

I did not grow up around private deals, investor rooms, or people explaining how wealth was built. I grew up working-class, in a small town, surrounded by people focused on getting through the week. The expectations were practical: work, handle your responsibilities, and do not wait for someone else to solve the problem.

Whenever I was uncertain, frustrated, or looking for an easier answer, my mother brought me back to the same line:

“You know what you’ve got to do.”

It was simple, but it left nowhere to hide. It taught me that clarity is rarely the problem. Most of the time, we already know the conversation we need to have, the work we need to finish, or the standard we have allowed to slip. The real decision is whether we are willing to act.

That idea became my operating system long before there were companies, investors, teams, or numbers attached to my name.

Craig building through repetition

THIRTY YEARS OF BUILDING.

The next three decades were built through repetition: learning businesses, raising capital, leading teams, navigating difficult markets, and earning trust one conversation at a time. Some decisions worked. Others became expensive lessons. Every season reinforced the same truth: credibility is not created by one presentation or one successful deal. It is built through consistent execution, clear communication, and what you do when circumstances stop being convenient. That work eventually led to building DiversyFund and serving as its Founder and Chief Executive Officer. Across Craig’s businesses and capital-formation work, the CXC materials attribute more than $1 billion raised and more than 30,000 investors served. Those figures matter, but they are not the whole story. The more important record is the discipline behind them: building systems, communicating through uncertainty, taking responsibility when outcomes are difficult, and continuing to improve the standard. I did not build a perfect record. I built an experienced one — shaped by wins, setbacks, pressure, and the responsibility that comes with other people trusting your judgment.

Family-focused current chapter

WHAT IT IS FOR NOW

At some point, building has to become about more than the next transaction. Experience is only valuable if it becomes useful to someone else. For me, that starts with family. Family first is not a slogan placed beside the work; it is the reason the work, health, and discipline matter. Being present, staying capable, telling the truth, and continuing to improve are part of the same responsibility. The next chapter of CXC is about documenting what I have learned and making it useful to serious people. The CXC Experience shares monthly operator lessons publicly. Advisory gives a small number of business owners direct support while they scale from $5M to $50M in annual revenue and raise capital with more discipline. The Inner Circle creates a private environment for approved investors to discuss markets, themes, and long-term positioning. Different paths. The same standard: do the work, communicate clearly, protect trust, and build for the long term.

THE WORK IS STILL THE WORK.

Experience does not remove the work. It makes the standard clearer. There is always another difficult conversation, another decision that requires judgment, another opportunity to become more disciplined, and another person depending on you to follow through. I am not interested in presenting an easy version of building. I am interested in the truth: meaningful work takes time, trust is earned slowly, and execution still matters after the attention moves somewhere else. My mother’s line still applies. I know what I’ve got to do. So do you.
